Dive down the rabbit and explore Alice in Genderbend, a whimsical escape room twisting the classic tale of Alice in Wonderland to explore themes of gender and identity. This 15-minute-long escape room features puzzles that relate to the transgender experience. What if the cake and potion that Alice eats and drinks were actually hormones? Eat your estradiol! Take your testosterone shot! This question led me to create Alice in Genderbend and explore why Lewis Carroll’s book had a spot in my heart. All roses must conform and be painted red! Going against the norm may cause you to lose your head!
Alice in Genderbend debuted at Liminal Space Collective’s Northern Lights held at the Circle Church in Santa Cruz. The Circle Church soon became its home as the game was run at two more events. Its final appearance occurred at Liminal Space’s Impermanence, an event that said goodbye to the church before it was torn down.
